Les Espaces Palimpsestes
THE EXHIBITION IS EXTENDED TILL THE END OF AUGUST 2011
In the Middle Age, since parchment was expensive, some copyists re-used old manuscripts. Previously, the old manuscripts were erased with pumice stone.
The result of this practice is called palimpsest.
This is what inspired Patrick Baillet for the "Espaces Palimpsestes" : in abandonned and tagged places, he integrates fragments of classic paintings, as just another unexpected layer. "In the middle of urban brutality, I love to bring the memory of a sophisticated culture and the nostalgia of a lost refinement."
